The Northern California Perinatal Transport System

The California Perinatal Transport System was established by mandate of the State Legislature in 1976. Its Northern Division is based at the Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.

NCPTS:

  • Provides emergency access to the perinatal system for high-risk maternity patients and critically ill neonates.
  • Assists in the referral and transport of high-risk maternity patients and critically ill neonates to appropriate CCS approved perinatal and neonatal care facilities.
  • Maintains a bed-availability roster for neonatal intensive care facilities. Direct assistance for consultation/referral may be obtained by calling the NCPeTS Dispatch Center, 650-723-7342.

Other activities of the NCPTS include:

  • Collection and analysis of perinatal and neonatal transport data for regional planning, outreach program development, and outcome analysis. This information is reported to the participating hospitals, and the Division of Maternal and Child Health of the California Department of Health
  • Support of an integrated network of regional perinatal programs in Northern California. Opportunities for regional perinatal programs to share and solve their common problems are provided through meetings of its Regional Quality Improvement Committee.

    The NCPTS staff includes:

  • Director: Al Hackel, M.D.

  • Data Manager: Michelle Padreddii, RN
