Northeast California Perinatal Outreach Program

Population Served
The Northeastern California Perinatal Outreach Program (NCPOP) serves twenty 
two counties from the Stockton area north to the Oregon border and from Fairfield east to 
the Nevada border. This region is mostly rural with a total of 38 hospitals providing 
obstetrical care – three of which are urban centers. The five largest population centers in 
the region are in the cities of Sacramento (2), Stockton, Carmichael, and Roseville (2005 
data). With over 47,257 (2005 data) births per year, the region represents 8.6% of all 
births in California. 

Programs and Activities
The program agenda is consistent with the State directives for all the Regional  Perinatal Programs of California (RPPC). Program activities will emphasize evidence- based clinical practice, outcome measurement, and utilization of regional data for clinical  quality improvement. This program facilitates 2 separate committees in accomplishing  these activities. The NCPOP OB/Nursery manager meeting is held quarterly and consists  of nurse managers, supervisors, clinical nurse specialists, and nurse educators. The  Medical Advisory Committee meets 2 times per year and consists of neonatologists for  the area.
