Population Served
Nearly 100,000 babies are born annually in PAC/LAC's region of Los Angeles, Santa 
Barbara and Ventura Counties. Pregnancy and birth outcomes vary greatly within the 
region as do the types of services needed to provide optimal care to the diverse perinatal 
population. Quality medical care is provided through numerous community clinic 
systems, federally qualified health centers, private medical providers and in community 
and tertiary care hospitals. The community served is diverse and their needs vast. 
PAC/LAC works with professionals and systems who care for this population to ensure 
quality of life for families and improved pregnancy outcomes. 

Programs and Activities

    •  Develop and disseminate guidelines for care in obstetrical and neonatal health.  Current guidelines include the Neonatal Guidelines of Care (2006) and Intrapartum  Guidelines of Care (2001) 
    •   Address public policy issues relevant to the needs of the constituency 
    •  Engage in research and evaluation services, including program evaluation  management, capacity building, needs assessment, and logic model design for health  and social service organizations 
    •   Participate in local, regional and statewide taskforces on topics such as family  violence, adolescent pregnancy, perinatal substance use, perinatal mental health and  breastfeeding 
    •  Offer technical assistance to perinatal and neonatal health care professionals 
    •  Professional education including CEUs for nurses and CMEs for physicians 
    •  Provide full day annual conference 
    •  Coordinate and/or promote local, regional and statewide educational events 
    •  Perform community surveys to identify best-practice policies and procedures

strengthening the infrastructure, systems and services that touch women and children.
