Population Served
The South Bay Perinatal Access Project (SBPAP) serves a socio-economically and 
ethnically diverse region in which 14,800 births were reported in 2001.  Of the total births, 
17.8% were White, 54.8% were Hispanic, 17.3% were African American, 9.5% were Asian 
American, and 1.7% were Native American. Health care facilities in the region range from 
Community Clinics to Regional Centers. SBPAP's region extends from Redondo Beach in the 
West to Long Beach in the East, from Inglewood in the North to San Pedro in the South.

Organization
     The SBPAP Region 6.2 convenes quarterly meetings of the Long Beach/South Bay 
Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative to improve the quality of health care for mothers and 
infants. As part of its outreach and resource development objectives, staff participates on 
specialty task forces and advisory groups.  To name a few: Breastfeeding Taskforce of Greater 
Los Angeles, Maternal and Child Health Access Project, LA County MCAH Birth Outcomes 
Workgroup, Los Angeles Best Babies Network, Healthy Babies Learning Collaborative and the 
Baby Friendly Hospital Community Collaborative.
