Population Served

The Region covers a large geographic area containing two counties: San Diego with a 
population of over 3 million and more than 48,000 births in 2006, and Imperial with a 
population of about 160,000 and more than 3,000 births. The Region includes a major 
urban area, with multiple health and social services providers near the coast; and isolated, 
rural areas with few resources inland.

Organization

Regional Perinatal System's (RPS) activities are directed by the Regional Perinatal 
Quality Improvement Council, whose members are appointed from the Region's hospitals 
and other key organizations and other perinatal groups. RPS is a collaborative project of 
Children's Hospital, Sharp HealthCare and UCSD Medical Center, serving all providers 
in the Region.
